The Shanghai E-Prix brought a return to permanent circuit racing, switching the focus firmly back onto energy management. Maserati MSG Racing started the day strong and with promise but were unable to convert their race strategy to points at the chequered flag due to failures with Pit Boost.
Both practice sessions showed the potential of the Maserati Tipo Folgore, with Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne finding the pace around the Shanghai International Circuit. Albeit qualifying not generating a duels appearance, both Jake and Stoffel made a step forward to start higher up the grid compared to recent races. Jake was unlucky to miss out on a duels appearance by hundredths of a second, settling for ninth on the grid.
Both drivers made a good start, managing the first few corners well to retain position. Stoffel was on an early Attack Mode strategy, taking his first four minutes in the early stages of the race. Starting higher up, Jake focused on getting track position before looking to take his first Attack.
Following suit from Tokyo, Stoffel was one of the first into the pit lane for his Pit Boost. The top twelve, including Jake, left their Pit Boost until the second wave towards the end of the Pit Boost window. Unfortunately, it was at this point the race got away from the team as both cars suffered a Pit Boost charger failure.
Maserati MSG Racing did everything they could to regain the lost positions, but energy consumption became critical. Jake and Stoffel took their last Attack Modes in the final few laps of the race, managing to climb up the grid, but there wasn’t quite enough time left in the race for either of them to get back in the points.
Tomorrow sees the second Shanghai E-Prix, where Maserati MSG Racing will take the learnings from today to make steps forwards. The absence of Pit Boost will shift the race strategy on Sunday, and the team will focus on improving on their energy and tyre management to be in the fight for the race podium.
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “That was a difficult race. We were going pretty good after the start; took attack mode early, got to the lead of the race after a couple of laps, positioned ourselves in the right group before the Pit Boost. Unfortunately, it was the Pit Boost where it went wrong for us. We had an issue with the charger and we lost a good number of seconds. This dropped us to last, into no man’s land, and we had to completely change the strategy and approach. It was difficult to be efficient because we were alone on track and couldn’t benefit from the slip stream. I took the second Attack Mode late to try and recover some positions, finishing just outside of the points. Looking at it, we were only a couple of seconds from the podium, but the six seconds lost in the Pit Boost ultimately cost us points today.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “Disappointing day today overall, especially the race. We had a decent strategy for both cars, tried to push forward from qualifying. I think we were in the mix to score points with both cars, targeting top six finish, but unfortunately, we had an issue on both cars in the Pit Boost which cost us. After that it was a little bit difficult to climb back into the points. We tried our best but couldn’t do better than the edge of the points. Not our day today, but I think the potential is there which is a positive. We need to do better. Now we have our heads down and full focus on bringing home points from the race tomorrow.”Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “We knew that the Shanghai double-header would be challenging. Racing in China, where Formula E took its first steps, still produces very intense feelings. The team are taking home from today’s race a series of important lessons that make us even more aware, united and focused towards our goals for the season. With Maserati’s centenary celebrations in racing on the horizon, we believe that the Shanghai double-header is an opportunity to enrich our racing history and connect with a new generation of motorsport fans. We will do our best tomorrow when we’ll be getting back on the starting grid to battle to be one of the best and to write another important chapter in the history – almost a century of it – of Maserati in racing all over the world.”

The FIA Formula E World Championship Continues in Asia with Shanghai Double Header
Maserati MSG Racing look to continue improved form from Tokyo in Shanghai.
Race Stats
Lap Length [KM] // 3.051
Lap Record // 1:15.385 (Norman Nato, 2024)
Best Finish // 8th (Max Guenther, 2024)
Formula E stays in Asia as it returns to another circuit that made its electric racing debut in 2024: the Shanghai International Circuit. Moving back to a permanent circuit after a few rounds on street circuits, the challenges for Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne will be different to the ones they faced in Monaco and Tokyo.
Last year, Maserati MSG Racing learnt a lot at the Shanghai International Circuit, and they’ll be looking to bring that along with all they have learned so far this season with the Gen3 Evo to the track. Pit Boost returns to the first race of the weekend to add another strategical element to the racing, something that has been seen this season to have the power to make or break a race.
Tokyo presented mixed results for the team with the first victory of the season taken in round eight by Stoffel executing a fantastic strategy from the team, this was then followed by disappointment at what could have been in round nine. The team knows that qualifying is an area requiring improvement, progress in this area will be critical to overall race performance as the team returns to China.
Jake, Stoffel and the entire Maserati MSG Racing team will do everything they can to bring home maximum points from the double header as Formula E concludes this year’s racing on the Asian continent.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing
“We’re coming off the back of a tricky run of form for the team in terms of pace, but a good recent result with a great strategic victory in Tokyo. We know how strong this package can be, we just need to find that consistent pace, especially in qualifying. I think if we can do that, we will be able to fight for strong results. Going into Shanghai, it’s good to remember that the last race here for Formula E I was on pole with Stoffel P2, so it’s clearly a track we both enjoy and understand. I think the powertrain will favour Shanghai as well, so we should be in for a strong weekend. Hopefully we’ll finally get on top of our tyre woes, hit the window in qualifying and be up at the front fighting for strong results in both races.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing:
“Another double header, the third in a row for us, as we go to Shanghai. The track was quite good for both Jake and I last year, although replicating that isn’t guaranteed as there is new tarmac. This will be among the new things we need to understand as we go racing in China. We’re coming off the back of the win in Tokyo, so hopefully we can build on that momentum, even though there is still work and understanding to be had with the Maserati Tipo Folgore. Mainly with qualifying. We haven’t had many highlights there and it’s clearly the area we want to improve. It’ll be crucial for the races this weekend, so we need to put the laps together in qualifying. Let’s see how it will be. There will be a lot to manage with high temperatures expected and another race with Pit Boost. Plenty to look forward to and, hopefully, we’ll see a continuation of the good momentum from Tokyo.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing:
“It’s exciting to be going back to Shanghai; the International Circuit is a good one to race at. It has been resurfaced since we raced there last year which brings a bit of the unknown to the race weekend. We know it’s an extremely energy sensitive circuit, so it will be interesting to see the effects of Pit Boost during the first race of the weekend. It should mix things up as we have seen with the Pit Boost races so far this season. Both drivers performed well in Shanghai last year, so hopefully they can capitalise on this and bring home some strong points for us this year.”
Marla Conti, Head of Maserati Corse:
“After the extraordinary victory in Tokyo and the unique event experienced in Monaco where we began our countdown to a century of Maserati in racing, here we are in Shanghai, full of determination and with awareness of the team’s potential. This will be the fourth double header of the season, a crucial opportunity to consolidate our position in the championship and continue to rise. Shanghai is a key city for Maserati and plays a highly important role in terms of business. The city symbolises innovation, technology and passion for electric mobility, values that Maserati shares with its Folgore range. In terms of performance, our aim is clear: to be consistent, improve in qualifying and battle for more podiums. Shanghai has two races for us to do so, and we’re ready to give our fans our best and to honour the journey towards the Trident’s centenary in motorsport.”

Gildo Pastor and Mathieu Kassovitz Announce the Creation of Venturi Production

Cannes, 21 May 2025Visionary entrepreneur Gildo Pastor and committed actor-director Mathieu Kassovitz have announced the launch of Venturi Production, a film production company focused on technological innovation in the service of storytelling.
For over 30 years, the film industry has embraced digital technology across all stages of production and distribution—sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. Yet we remain in a transitional phase, one that is now accelerating and ushering in a new era.
Venturi Production aims to be at the forefront of this transformation, in a field where the rules are being redefined. The company sees this as fertile ground for artistic exploration. Venturi Production develops projects — films, series, video games and documentaries — grounded in the worlds of science, engineering and technology, both in terms of content and in the way they are created. The ambition is to spotlight human intelligence and creativity, harnessing the power of technology to forge new narrative tools and tell untold stories.
This venture stems from a 20-year friendship and mutual admiration between Gildo Pastor and Mathieu Kassovitz. A lifelong enthusiast for innovation and cutting-edge technology, Mathieu met Gildo in the early 2000s and featured Venturi’s electric vehicles in his science fiction film Babylon A.D.
Since 2000, Venturi has designed high-performance electric vehicles. The company has made its mark in the Formula E World Championship, undertaken three extreme expeditions in hostile environments, developed three polar exploration vehicles and five concept cars. To date, it holds 28 world speed records on two and four wheels.
Building on this expertise, Gildo Pastor steered the Venturi Group towards the space industry in 2021 with the creation of Venturi Space, in strategic partnership with US-based Venturi Astrolab, Inc. This international network—spanning Monaco, Los Angeles, Switzerland, and Toulouse—has filed 40 patents and is preparing for its first lunar missions: the FLIP rover is scheduled to land in early 2026, followed by FLEX in 2027, which has been preselected by NASA for humanity’s return to the Moon in 2030. Venturi Space is also developing a lunar mobility solution for the European Space Agency.
Together, Kassovitz and Pastor proudly present Venturi Production as a platform to share their common vision of innovation and to explore new forms of cinematic creation.
“To truly push boundaries and blend artistic and technological risk-taking, I needed to team up with a visionary whose roots lie more in real-world industry than traditional cinema. That’s how I approached Gildo, after years of connection and mutual respect, so we could align on the yet-untapped potential of cinema’s future — and on our shared desire to be among its pioneers. In Gildo, I’ve found a genuine partner whose vision knows no bounds, yet remains grounded. A partner who shares this vision of cinema using technology — rather than the other way around.”
–Mathieu Kassovitz“
In our respective fields, Mathieu and I are explorers. What drives us is curiosity, a forward-looking gaze toward future technologies, and a desire to live boldly. Our projects can only come to life if we’re wholly invested in them. So let’s do it—let’s merge our creative energies! The possibilities offered by audio-visual and space technologies seem endless. A vast new playground awaits us.”–Gildo Pastor
“The only limits are those we impose upon ourselves. Let’s go and explore them.”–Gildo Pastor & Mathieu Kassovitz

The Report
After the elation of the Round 8 victory in Tokyo, Maserati MSG Racing wasn’t able to repeat their race-winning performance, with Jake Hughes finishing in P18 and yesterday’s winner, Stoffel Vandoorne unable to complete Round 9 following late-race contact.
With no qualifying yesterday and no threat of rain for today’s race day, Stoffel and Jake knew how important today’s session would be.
Stoffel was out first in Group A and felt comfortable with the car having made adjustments following FP3. He was ready to put in a strong push lap when Jaguar’s Mitch Evans had a heavy crash into the barriers, bringing a delay to the group stage. Stoffel did all he could, but traffic made the perfect lap impossible to achieve. He missed out on progressing to the duels by half a second.
Jake was in Group B, but it quickly became apparent that tyre temperatures were once again causing him issues. He too missed out on progressing to the duels by a narrow margin, the whole group covered by eight tenths of a second.
Trying to get the most out of the race, the team split strategies. Jake had the bolder early Attack Mode where Stoffel’s race was more measured and following the expected strategy. Jake’s strategy, however, was scuppered by a very late safety car for McLaren’s Taylor Barnard.
Being so late to be deployed, the window to add laps to the race had expired, giving Jake one lap to activate and complete his remaining two minutes of Attack Mode. He had to slow significantly in the final lap to comply to the Attack Mode regulations before taking the chequered flag, dropping him to the bottom of the classified order.
It was insult added to injury, as Stoffel had come into the pits as the safety car was deployed with heavy damage on his car. Nissan’s Norman Nato had a torque cut as Stoffel had been moving to overtake him, causing the two to have contact. Stoffel was briefly lifted into the air causing a broken front wing and a puncture which forced him to retire from the race.
It was not the sign off to the weekend Maserati MSG Racing were hoping for after the highs of yesterday. The team’s focus now turns to optimising qualifying performance, aiming to return stronger for the next rounds in Shanghai.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “Overall, we can only say it’s a successful weekend; any weekend the team get a win is successful weekend. Today feels like a missed opportunity, not because we did anything wrong, but because we didn’t maximise qualifying. At the moment we don’t completely understand this tyre. In Free Practice 3, I was out the front always, around P2, P3, sometimes even P1, confident with the car. Then we put a different set of tyres on for qualifying and we’re at the back. It’s not reflective of the true pace of the car; we’re just missing something in tyre preparation which we need to understand. In the race, I got to a good place with my strategy, in the points, but unfortunately the safety car took away all that hard work. It was too late in the race for me, and I couldn’t fulfil the Attack Mode allocation, so I had to slow down about 60 seconds on the final lap to avoid an Attack Mode infringement penalty. We learnt a lot this weekend, we got a win for the team, so we go into Shanghai with, hopefully, some good momentum.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “It was a tough race today and unfortunately I didn’t finish. It was an unlucky accident with Norman; he had a power cut out of Turn 8, just as I was on Attack Mode and overtaking him. We had contact, my car took off which caused a puncture and a broken front wing which meant I couldn’t make it to the end. I think it would have been a decent race; we could have finished P9 with a couple of points. That would have been nice, probably the maximum we could have done today. We’ve got some work to do, got to improve our qualifying performance because it’s been a little bit up and down. Overall, leaving Tokyo with a victory so we can be proud of that, and looking forward to Shanghai.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “We have to self-reflect on today, we didn’t do the job in qualifying, so we started too far back. In the race, we split the strategy between our drivers and they both did their job, and both were up in the top ten fighting for points. Unfortunately, Stoffel had race-ending contact and Jake had the late safety car which neutralised both their strategic advantages. The safety car came one lap too late for Jake – otherwise he would have been fighting for points. It wasn’t our day today. We did what we had to in the race, now we need to focus and try to understand how to maximise our one lap pace because that’s what cost us today.”
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “Today’s race finished off an extraordinary weekend in Tokyo. The final outcome includes not only a memorable victory, but above all the outstanding work of the entire team. Every race weekend is an opportunity for learning. From Tokyo, we take home some fundamental lessons to be implemented both off the track and in races so we can improve in the second part of the season. This country is one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of development and innovation in technology, as well as being a key city within Maserati’s strategy, offering the possibility to meet our customers. Looking ahead, our firm goal remains to keep performance at its peak and to get closer to the leading group so we can improve our results. We bring Maserati’s competitive DNA to every round, taking us closer and closer to our brand’s centenary in motorsport, a milestone to which the countdown has already begun.”

The Report
Maserati MSG Racing picked up where we left off last time racing in Tokyo with victory. A perfectly timed Pit Boost saw Stoffel Vandoorne climb the field from 14th to take the team’s first win of the season.
The torrential rain played its part in today’s race, not only affecting second practice but seeing qualifying cancelled for the first time in Formula E’s history. This meant that the grid was set using the results of free practice two, placing Stoffel and Jake Hughes in P14 and P15 respectively.
The rain had not disappeared prior to the start of the race, with a lot of standing water still on the track. This led to the decision that the race would be started behind the Safety Car, racing at a slower speed to help clear the water that remained on track. Aided by the fact rain had stopped falling due to delaying the start of the race by ten minutes, the grid took to their positions for a standing start four laps into the race.
Jake and Stoffel handled the standing start well, fighting off the surrounding cars and rain spray to safely and successfully make it through the first corner. No positions were gained, Jake losing a few and picking up some minimal front wing damage, but both cars continued into the race.
The Maserati MSG Racing duo started to look to when best to take their Pit Boost. Opting for an bold strategy, Stoffel pitted first in what would become the moment that won him the Tokyo E-Prix.
As Stoffel rejoined the race, Max Guenther’s DS PENSKE came to a halt on track, the position of the car triggering a red flag. However, this meant that Stoffel had basically taken his Pit Boost for free, losing no time on the field, and would climb up the order without the need of risky manoeuvres as the rest of the competition came in to take their Pit Boosts.
Jake stayed with Stoffel, acting rear gunner, as the pair moved through the grid together in the perfect team strategy to make it to P3 and P4. Unfortunately, Jake still had to take his Pit Boost and couldn’t optimise on the same strategy as Stoffel. A failure with his Pit Boost lost him a lot of time and he fell back down the timing tower when he came in towards the final stages of the race. He rejoined P19 and 28 seconds off the closest car. Jake needed another incident to get him back in the race, whilst Stoffel needed the race to remain incident free to capitalise on his perfectly timed stop.
There was a moment of concern as the rain began to return and Stoffel was caught out, spinning on track. He managed to only lose five seconds of his 25 second lead to Nissan’s Oliver Rowland and continue with no real damage to the car despite having hit the wall. From there, Stoffel took no additional risks, backing off and just focusing on keeping the car on track as he drove to Maserati MSG Racing’s first victory of the season.
The team go again tomorrow, hoping to get a chance to show the potential of the Maserati Tipo Folgore in qualifying and to have both cars fighting up the front of the grid.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “The biggest win today – aside from my teammate who I’m buzzing for – is the fact that we actually got a race on for the fans. There was a lot of today where it just looked like the rain was too much and we weren’t going to get to do any racing. To get a clean race was a job well done by the whole paddock. As for the race, a mega strategy by the team for Stoffel. It fell his way today but he still had to execute it, still had to get it to the chequered flag, so a fantastic job from him. We’ve had a difficult season so far; we haven’t had a lot of luck so it’s nice that we got a bit of luck and a good performance from Stoffel today with the win. My race was the complete opposite. Some damage early on which wasn’t the end of the world, but then we had a failure in the pit stop with the Pit Boost and I lost about 30 seconds. Then it’s basically game over. We go again tomorrow, hopefully get to complete a proper qualifying and can show the full potential of the Maserati Tipo Folgore.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “I forgot what it feels like to win! It feels weird because it’s a little bit unexpected, but at the same time I knew it was 100% possible. We had a very bold strategy: to spend so much energy in the beginning to open our pit window very early. Being able to be first into the pit lane and offset ourselves from the rest, which we managed to do. I love it when a plan comes really into play; every little thing that you discuss before the race actually happens. It’s very rare that it comes together like that in Formula E but today was one of those days. We execute a perfectly planned strategy. It was very ballsy! It made my life difficult at times; after the pit stop with such a low energy target and having to manage the battery of the car. There was a lot of communication between myself and Thibault, but he kept me very calm, managed to have good communication, kept me up to date with the gap behind to the other guys so I knew exactly how much I could back off and could do the saving that I needed to do.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “What an amazing result! We wanted to be a bit aggressive in this race because we couldn’t do qualifying. Not being able to show our pace, we started a bit further back than expected and knew we would need to try something different. The guys came up with a plan and so we tried a positive strategy on both cars to cover a variety of options. There was a bit of luck, and we needed it to get this great result, but it doesn’t change the fact that the team thought about all the outcomes, covered all the options. We felt like if there was an opportunity to get big points, we would be there to grab it and that’s exactly what happened. The execution was faultless. We are very happy with that win.
“It’s a team victory. For Jake, unfortunately the race didn’t fall the way we wanted. He switched focus to play rear gunner for Stoffel, let him pass when he had to. It was the perfect team game, so this victory is a team victory. I want to thank both drivers; Jake was a big part of it.
“Thanks to everyone – a job well done. We’ll celebrate the moment, but then we focus straight back to tomorrow. There’s still some work to do. Today luck was on our side but tomorrow I want to win on pure pace.”
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “What an unpredictable and incredible day! Winning in Tokyo again after last year’s triumph is an amazing feeling! This street circuit is extremely fascinating and technical, made even more unpredictable by the rain and the Pit Boost. We experienced unforgettable emotions in the heart of one of the most iconic cities in the world, surrounded by an extremely welcoming audience, which made the day wonderful. Today, we have written another memorable chapter to Maserati’s almost 100 years of history in motorsport. The team’s work, the perfect strategy and Stoffel’s determination made the difference. Today’s result drives us ahead into a significant second half of the season and we can’t wait to get back on the track tomorrow to battle to be one of the best.”

This weekend represents a welcome return to the Japanese capital of Tokyo after its debut last season for the third double-header race weekend in Season 11. The double event gives Maserati MSG Racing drivers Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne more point scoring opportunities as we move to the midway point of the season.
Last time out at Maserati MSG Racing’s home event in Monaco, qualifying was one of the most important elements of the weekend. Tyre temperatures, single lap pace and a low race energy consumption meant that starting outside the top ten was going to make it more challenging to score points. The team learnt a lot over the two race events and have used the week long gap in between to analyse and assess all the data from Monaco, aiming to put in place learnings for Tokyo.
Maserati MSG Racing’s track record in Tokyo is a strong one, with Max Guenther taking the Monegasque marque to the top step last year. He drove a great race, holding off Nissan’s Oliver Rowland and Andretti’s Jake Dennis to take victory. He narrowly missed pole position to Rowland by two hundredths of a second, showcasing how competitive the Maserati Tipo Folgore was on the Japanese street circuit.
Fond memories of the competitive performance at this circuit last year give great hope to the team that these successes can be replicated this weekend. Pit Boost returns once again for Round 8 (Saturday’s race), and will continue to bring a new strategical element to the racing.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing
“I’m really looking forward to getting back out to Japan. Last year, it was a lot of fun in and around the event; the fans were really welcoming and they made it a wonderful race to compete in. The track was great to drive too, from a characteristics perspective. It’s a welcome return towards the Formula E ‘roots’ of street circuit racing and away from the permanent circuits that have featured on the calendar. Another double header weekend with the return of Pit Boost gives us plenty of strategic elements to play with over the two races. I think we’ve taken a step in the right direction with our understanding of the package – especially of the tyres – from Monaco, so I’m hopeful we can be back up towards the front where we belong. Especially in qualifying.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing:
“I love Japan. I raced here in Super Formula in 2016 so it always brings back some good memories from the past, racing at the different circuits. Last year was the first edition of this E-Prix. I think the track is very challenging: very bumpy, very narrow, so a proper old school Formula E track. This year, with the new tyres and with the Pit Boost race, it’s definitely going to be another interesting one. We’ve learned some things from Monaco which we can improve for Tokyo so I’m very excited to get back behind the wheel, see the progress we’ve made and hopefully continue scoring points.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing:
“Going back to Tokyo brings good memories from last year when we got the race win the first time Formula E raced in Japan. The track has changed a little from last year’s layout, so the configuration is not exactly the same, but it remains a very technical track. We hope we can carry on the momentum that we had here last year and replicate those incredible results, hopefully this time with both cars high up in the points. Monaco wasn’t the weekend that we had hoped for, but we are confident that we can put the form of recent races behind us and hunt down some good points in Tokyo.”
Marla Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “We’re thrilled to be returning to Tokyo for the second time with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Last year, we made history by triumphing in the first Formula E race in Japan. Now we’re ready to experience the next double header weekend as a leading name. To follow the extraordinary parade of Maseratis at the Monaco E-Prix, the upcoming race weekend will be another milestone in our journey towards the celebrations of a century of Maserati in motorsport. We are now halfway through the season and the championship titles are still open: we’re focused on keeping performance at our best to get closer to the leading group, maintaining the pace of the qualifiers and, above all, to improve our results, bringing Maserati’s competitive DNA to every round.”

The Report
With learnings from yesterday’s E-Prix, Maserati MSG Racing were raring to go for their second home race. Unfortunately, rain in qualifying and another mixed race meant that the points haul taken from the weekend was below what was expected.
The day started off well with both Jake Hughes and Stoffel Vandoorne feeling like progress had been made overnight. With the experiences of Round Six fresh in the mind, both drivers were ready to challenge Round Seven on the streets of Monaco.
Rain came to ruin the party in qualifying, shaking up everybody’s strategies. Stoffel handled the wet conditions superbly, taking third in Group B to progress into the duels. Jake did all he could, but rear locking in Turn 8 saw him miss a duels appearance by four tenths of a second.
It was Stoffel versus old DS PENSKE teammate Vergne in the third quarter final duel. Stoffel put everything into his 350kW push lap, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Frenchman. He was the fastest of those relegated in the quarter finals, however, which gave him a solid fifth place on the starting grid.
Qualifying is always important in Monaco, due to the nature of the track making overtaking challenging, but with the Monaco E-Prix being a low energy consumption race, it becomes even more important. This remained the case even without Pit Boost in Round 7.
Due to this factor, Jake’s impressive ability of being able to conserve energy through the first half of the race to have an energy advantage in the closing stages became null and void. Even Stoffel struggled to optimise an energy preservation strategy within the top ten, unable to stick with the leading pack. Tyre temperatures affected what could be extracted from the Maserati Tipo Folgore in the race, with the grip not where either driver expected it to be.
It was a quiet race for both Jake and Stoffel, with the only drama being contact between Jake and CUPRA Kiro’s Beckmann. Jake was handed a five second penalty for the collision, but due to other penalties around him and the 20s+ gap behind him to Jaguar’s Evans at the chequered flag, his position was unaffected.
Maserati MSG Racing will use the next few weeks to study why we faced such challenges in Monaco, asset the data and make sure we come back stronger for the next double header in Tokyo.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “It’s easy to look back after the fact and see what could have been done better. Maybe we were a bit in the middle with our timing of the first Attack Mode, not early but not late, which didn’t give us much advantage when in 350kw. But tyre grip was where I struggled the most. In the penultimate lap, we managed to back off and do the warmup we would do in qualifying. Usually, you don’t get a chance to do that in a race scenario, but we found it helped because the pace came back on the last lap and we almost got fastest lap. We need to understand what it was that made keeping tyre temperatures up so difficult today so we can learn and build on it ahead of the next two races in Tokyo.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “I’m a little disappointed with the outcome of the whole weekend. Race one we struggled a little bit in qualifying but had a decent race, then race two we had a much better qualifying in tricky conditions in the wet. Starting from fifth, I thought we were going to be in good shape to really fight it out at the front, but it just felt very difficult from the start. I struggled with pace, couldn’t really move through the pack, we just had to run our own race and bring home as much as we could. P10, one point again, but we need to learn from this and come back stronger.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “Not a good weekend for us with a lack of performance in general in both qualifying and the race. It feels like we take one step forwards but then two steps back, so in the end it’s not good enough, especially at our home race. It is a shame because we know that the Maserati Tipo Folgore and the team is capable of much more than has been shown over the last two days. To go into the race P5 and P12 and end P10 and P17 is not the outcome we want. The best we can do right now is to step back and regroup. Luckily, we’re racing in two weeks so we can put things right as early as possible and keep our eye in the game. Tonight we’ll sleep on it, then tomorrow we’ll be back in the office and back at work to prepare for Tokyo.”
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “It’s been a weekend full of emotions. It was extraordinary to revive the competitive spirit of our DNA on the roads of the most iconic and famous street circuit in the world. Seeing our cars in Monaco is a unique feeling as to begin the celebrations to lead up to next year’s commemoration of Maserati first 100 years in motor racing. We’re taking home a whole lot of valuable lessons from this double header and we’re proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our drivers and team. Now we’re going to push ahead with our goal: to express our performance-oriented DNA to the fullest, battling to be in the leading group.”

The Report
The first race of the Monaco E-Prix double header was not the kick start to the weekend Maserati MSG Racing had been looking for, but it gave the team plenty of useful data and learnings ahead of the second race at the iconic track tomorrow.
Stoffel Vandoorne did well to come back from a difficult start to the day with a minor issue setting his side of the garage behind schedule during FP2. It meant the Belgian went into Group Qualifying with less data than most, still working on fine tuning the set up of his Maserati Tipo Folgore.
Getting the Hankook tyres in the perfect operating temperature was a struggle for both Maserati MSG Racing drivers, with neither of them able to put together the perfect lap in Group B. They gave it their all, but the cold tyres left too much on the track to let Jake or Stoffel progress into the duels.
Starting outside the top eight, the team had to shift their race strategy. The E-Prix would be all about moving through the field efficiently, trying to replicate Jake’s perfect strategy from Miami; save energy at the start and have the advantage at the end.
With multiple incidents that brought out the full course yellows, both Jake and Stoffel were lucky to get through them with minimum incident. Jake lost part of his front wing due to light contact with Lola’s Maloney, but both cars continued. Jake got a five second penalty for the incident post race, but it didn’t effect his final position.
It looked like Jake’s energy retention strategy might have worked out for him as it was looking to in Miami, moving to third in the field with one six-minute Attack Mode left to use. But as the grid shuffled through their stops and the race neutralised, he fell back down to P17. He raced hard in the last few laps of the race, using his six minutes of Attack Mode to good effect, but the gap to the cars in front was too big for him to climb back into the points.
Stoffel had the reverse Attack Mode strategy, using his six-minute blast in the earlier stage of the race and leaving him with two minutes for the last few laps. He was able to get back into the points, securing P9 for the team on the line, but the whole team ended the race feeling like there was more on offer today.
Maserati MSG Racing will regroup and study what has been learnt from this first race in Monaco, ready to come back fighting tomorrow.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “It was a tricky day. I don’t think anyone was particularly enthralled with what happened in the race, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. We need to understand what went wrong today. It seems to be a reoccurring issue – a mixture of tyres and brakes, mixture of how the way the tyre is behaving on the track with the way the track grip is and the way the temperature of the tyre wants to be. In Jeddah we did not have this combination of issue, Mexico neither, but in Brazil, Mami, here we have a mixture of the same issue. Hopefully we will have some answers for tomorrow.
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing: “We got ninth so I think from how the day has evolved for us, from where we came from, to get a couple of points was good. We’ve been struggling in qualifying all season. Starting 13th, it was all about getting something out of it. It was a chaotic race, so much to take in with the Attack Modes, Pit Boost, how to deploy energy. We got unlucky in a couple of incidents but we still finished in the points. We’ll take that today and hopefully tomorrow we will come back stronger.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing: “Qualifying is where we have to work on for tomorrow because we started too far back. That’s the first point to address. As for the race, we maximised what we had. Stoffel started P13, finished P9, so it’s not a lot but still some points. For Jake, starting at the back in a race that was not energy sensitive and included the Pit Boost, it was going to be difficult. There is a lot to address; this is our home race and it’s not what we wanted to show. We’ll have to look deep into the data tonight and work with the drivers and the rest of the team to make sure we show better performance tomorrow.”
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse: “It’s been an intense day today. Monaco holds a special place in our hearts, not only because of its iconic track, but also because of Maserati’s wealth of heritage on these roads, with iconic victories such as those in Formula 1 in 1948, 1956 and 1957. It was a day of firsts today: the first time a double header has taken place in the team’s home race and the first time the extraordinary Maserati cars have paraded on the most famous street circuit in the world. We have started the countdown to 2026, when we will celebrate a century of the Trident in racing. Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes at the wheel of the Maserati Tipo Folgore showed determination and pride, and it was a shame they didn’t manage to score the points they had hoped for. Tomorrow, we will have the opportunity to redeem ourselves: we can’t wait to line up on the starting grid.”

Maserati MSG Racing Returns Home for Inaugural Monaco E-Prix Double Header
Formula E returns to the Principality as the electric series embarks on its first double header around the iconic Monaco track.
Race Stats
Lap Length [KM] // 3.337
Lap Record // 1:28.773 (Sacha Fenestraz, 2023)
Best Finish // 3rd (Felipe Massa, 2019)
The FIA Formula E Championship returns to a sense of the known as the all-electric series returns to the jewel in the motorsport crown, Monaco. Not only is this Maserati MSG Racing’s home event, but also for the first time we will be challenging two races around the winding streets as it becomes the second double header of the season.
The advantage of the unknown is removed with every driver on the grid having some experience of the Monaco circuit. Last year the results didn’t quite fall Maserati MSG Racing’s way, but the Maserati Tipo Folgore has been showing good improvements throughout the season so far. The team and drivers are hoping that this progression will see them fighting at the sharp end of the grid for a good haul of points over the two races, taking the opportunity to be on the podium whenever possible.
Miami was a learning curve, showing areas that the team needed to work on, but also a display of how efficient and affective the team can be. Albeit ending in a DNF, Jake Hughes’ race strategy that moved him from the back of the grid to being in contention for a podium was a startling reminder to our competitors that the team is here to fight.
The Monaco double header also sees the return of Pit Boost, adding another technical element to the weekend. The mandatory 30 second fast charge stop will be in effect for Saturday’s race, with Sunday’s edition without it.
In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing
“I’m really excited to be taking part in the first Monaco double header in Formula E history. It’s a fantastic track – the more you get to drive of it the better in my opinion, so I’m going to be loving the extra race we have this weekend. Not only is it a track I love, but it’s also the team’s home race so a very important one all round. We shouldn’t forget how exciting and what a privilege it is to have our home race in Monaco, but it’s also a double point scoring weekend. Not that we needed any more reason to give this weekend absolutely everything. I’m hoping to put on a good show for everybody: everyone involved with the team and all the fans as well.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing:
“Monaco is a special race for me. Not only is it the team’s home race but, as a Monaco resident, it’s mine too. Everyone loves Monaco, it’s the highlight of the Formula E calendar. This year, we get two opportunities with it – one with Pit Boost again and then the second one as more of a classic race. It’s going to be a very strategic race weekend, especially with Pit Boost on Saturday. It’s the first time we have a double header in Monaco so it’ll be a very dynamic weekend. We need to make the right calls for the right results, but I’ve got my eye on some new trophies for the cabinet. Overall, I’m feeling optimistic about the weekend: racing around a track I love and have scored good results at in the past.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing:
“Not only is the Monaco race weekend always a special one for us as our home race but this year, we’re making history as the first ever Monaco double header for Formula E. It will be incredible to race twice in front of our home crowd who always give us the best reception and, after a difficult race in Miami, where we saw so much potential taken from us, our home double header would be the best place to get back on the front foot. We will treat this race the same as any other race: a double header with a big point scoring opportunity and a car, drivers and team who are ready to optimise the weekend. Our heads will be down and focused to extract everything we know the Maserati Tipo Folgore is capable of.”
Marla Conti, Head of Maserati Corse:
“With the highly anticipated Formula E double header in Monaco approaching, we’re thrilled to return to this historic street circuit. Monaco holds a special place in our hearts, not only for its iconic track but also for our wealth of motorsport heritage. Maserati has important motorsport memories here, where we won in Formula 1 in 1948, 1956 and 1957, triumphs that testify to our long-lasting motorsport heritage. At the same time, the Maserati MSG Racing team is eager to tackle their home circuit, feeling the weight of history on our shoulders on these legendary roads. This race is no ordinary event: it is a celebration of our past and a step towards our future, as we begin the countdown to Maserati’s 100 years in racing. We’re ready to take up the challenge and continue our tradition of excellence.”
