Race // P1
Fastest Race Lap // 1:25.468
Championship // P1 [111 points]

Lorenz Hoerzing
Qualifying // P9
Race // P4
Fastest Race Lap // 1:25.449
Championship // P13 [16 points]

ROKiT Venturi Racing
Championship // P1 [142 points]

IN DETAIL

ROKiT Venturi Racing returned to winning ways in the esports arena by netting the top spot in the penultimate round of Formula E: Accelerate as the Monegasque marque stormed to a dominant victory at the Electric Docks circuit.

In the fifth round of the six-race competition, championship frontrunner Erhan Jajovski cemented P2 on the grid as team-mate, Lorenz Hoerzing, secured his best qualifying result to date by taking P9.

When the 25-minute race got underway, Erhan immediately got the jump on polesitter Frederik Rasmussen to gain the lead while Lorenz advanced to P5 amidst the carnage of Turn 1.

By posting the fastest lap of the event from the outset, Erhan successfully established an early gap between himself and P2 – a buffer he would maintain over the course of the race.

With the aid of Attack Mode, meanwhile, Lorenz successfully overtook Martin Stefanko to move into P4 before setting his sights on the fight for the final step of the podium.

After briefly advancing to P3, Lorenz dropped to P5 by activating his final Attack Mode but with a 35kW power advantage, soon overtook reigning F1 esports champion Jarno Opmeer for P4.

Holding a 3.7-second lead, Erhan took P1 when the chequered flag waved to take his third Formula E: Accelerate victory, with Lorenz securing P4 to complete a double-points performance and a haul of 37 points.

Formula E: Accelerate will conclude on March 25 where ROKiT Venturi Racing, Erhan and Lorenz will compete for the Teams’ and Drivers’ Championship titles on the digital streets of Rome with double points on offer.

IN THEIR WORDS

Erhan Jajovski
“Finishing in P1 is a huge weight off my chest! My qualifying lap wasn’t perfect but I think there was still pace left on the table. At the start of the race, I wasn’t expecting Rasmussen to lift so early into Turn 1 and this meant that I moved into the lead. From there, I briefly dropped back behind him when I took my first Attack Mode but I got past. I used quite a lot of energy in the opening stages which meant I had to save quite a lot until the chequered flag. Going into the finale, I will be keeping the same approach and I just want to do my best as always.”

Lorenz Hoerzing
“Qualifying in P9 was okay but I think I still had more pace available overall. Looking back at it, I think it was a good thing to start there, given the accident that happened in Turn 1. I was very lucky and was able to avoid all of the carnage at the start and this gave me P5. Shortly after, I overtook Stefanko for P4 and from there, my race was about managing energy. I had a great battle with Jarno [Opmeer] over the final laps and the fight went right up until the line. When I took the chequered flag, I had 0% of usable energy left and took P4 by 0.061-seconds. It was close but it was timed to perfection – I’m very happy with how it played out! It feels awesome to take 12 points!”

Erhan Jajovski returns to top spot and takes win in Round 5 of Formula E: Accelerate

RACE RE-CAP

– Erhan Jajovski (ROKiT Venturi Racing) took his third win of Formula E: Accelerate, ahead of Nikodem Wisniewski (DS TECHEETAH) and Frederik Rasmussen (DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT).
– Wisniewski clinched his first podium of the competition following a previous best result of 8th, finishing ahead of Rasmussen who earlier in the event took his second Pole Position in a row.
– Further down the grid, ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge winner Kevin Siggy came away from the event with only one point, finishing where he started the race in 10th and leaving himself a lot of work to do in the Grand Final next week.
Fast facts
– Eyes on the prize; Jajovski now holds a 26-point lead over closest rival Rasmussen, the equivalent of a race win and fastest lap.
– Two for one; For the Grand Final on March 25, double points will be up for grabs in the final race of the competition, meaning there is a total of 56 points to play for.
– Italian job; The setting for the Grand Final of Formula E: Accelerate will be the Eternal City of Rome, which is a Formula E driver favourite known for its unforgiving bumps and fast straights.
Special guests
– Andretti United Extreme E driver Catie Munnings visited the Formula E: Accelerate studio ahead of the electric SUV off-road racing series’ inaugural event in Saudi Arabia on April 3-4.
“The fact that drivers from some of the most popular motorsports in the world want to take part in Extreme E says something about how important this championship is. The environmental aspect of the championship is awesome and it’s all about raising awareness of climate change and to use sport as a voice to remind everyone that it is our responsibility to save the planet.”
– Host Jack Nicholls spoke with BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver Jake Dennis on his assessment after his first races driving in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
“The pace was there but it was about getting used to the carnage! I had seen a Formula E race before and of course coming from sports cars I should be used to some door-to-door bashing. I was being thrown in the deep end but it was such a cool experience and I learnt a lot from it. I’m loving what I’m doing and I’m looking forward to Rome.”
Aléthéa Boucq – sim racer and YouTuber – was also in the Formula E: Accelerate studio to share her story of getting into sim racing during lockdown, as well as taking to the virtual track to set a hot lap around the New York City circuit.
“I started racing in February before lockdown and I was watching streaming channels on YouTube when my fiancé had just bought a simulator. I gave it a go and I loved it! I’m learning by setting some day-to-day goals for myself to achieve and literally went from zero to hero all while I was learning on stream.”

Formula E: Accelerate

– Esports competition showcases 24 rising stars competing over six events and being mentored by Formula E teams and drivers.

FORMULA E: ACCELERATE RACE 4

Monaco’s only racing team takes a third podium in four races
IN NUMBERS
Erhan Jajovski
Qualifying // P3
Race // P2
Fastest Race Lap // 1:12.115
Championship // P1 [86 points]
Lorenz Hoerzing
Qualifying // P12
Race // P8
Fastest Race Lap // 1:11.937
Championship // P14 [4 points]
ROKiT Venturi Racing
Championship // P2 [105 points]
IN DETAIL

Following a brief break in competition, ROKiT Venturi Racing returned to the esports arena, and on the digital streets of Diriyah, the Monegasque marque powered to the podium, netting a third top-three result in Formula E: Accelerate.

For the fourth race of the competition, championship leader Erhan Jajovski qualified in P3 while team-mate Lorenz Hoerzing secured his best qualifying result to date by taking P12.

When the 25-minute race commenced, Erhan maintained position over the opening stages, however, Lorenz quickly advanced to the top 10 by overtaking Manuel Biancolilla and Kuba Brzezinski.

Erhan remained within range of the fight for P1 throughout the race, and with six minutes remaining, he overtook Kevin Siggy for P2 before setting his sights on leader Frederik Rasmussen.

Beating the Dane’s own personal best race lap in the closing stages, Erhan began to close the gap but with energy levels becoming critical, he was forced to abandon his charge, taking P2 when the chequered flag waved.

A daring final lap from Lorenz saw the Austrian overtake reigning F1 esports champion Jarno Opmeer before darting past Petar Brljak to complete a double-points performance in P8.

In the first part of the Accelerate Driver Challenge, Norman Nato also showcased a strong comeback performance and from P12 on the grid, the Frenchman took P3 to advance ROKiT Venturi Racing’s Teams’ Championship tally by a further 15 points.

With only two races remaining, the Grand Final of Formula E: Accelerate edges closer. The series will return on March 18 for the penultimate round of the competition, held on the fictional Electric Docks circuit.

IN THEIR WORDS

Erhan Jajovski
“Given the position I started in, I’m happy with P2 – I think it’s a pretty good result. After overtaking Kevin [Siggy] I was close on energy and I only had 0.2% of usable energy left at the end of the race. It was really tight! I started lifting a lot earlier than usual so I could get to the end. I’m looking forward to the next race and I hope we can carry over our form from the first four races.”

Lorenz Hoerzing
“The race was awesome! I think I was a bit too cautious during my qualifying run and I made a small mistake in Sector 2, but all in all, I still secured my best starting position of the season. The race was the best one I’ve driven so far. In Diriyah, you lose more time by activating Attack Mode than you gain from the power advantage so the timing was very important. I timed them perfectly though, and this meant that when others used them, they fell behind me and couldn’t re-overtake. At the end of the race, I had a lot more energy than the drivers in front of me which meant I made up two more positions on the final lap to take P8. I’m incredibly happy with my performance and I’m very much looking forward to the coming races – my motivation is very high.”
